what are some good modern jazz/blues singers similar to bobby caldwell?

Is it possible to play free jazz or modern jazz on the guitar?

I’ve always been a huge fan of Grant Green and George Benson, but it seems that the current modern jazz guys ( Joshua Redman, Wynton, Christian McBride, Chick Corea) don’t feature any guitar players in their bands.
